NEWBURGH – The Onward Recovery Community and Outreach Center in Newburgh has opened. The center will provide free support and services for people who are in recovery from a substance use disorder, as well as for their families.
The center, operated by Independent Living, is supported through a $1.75 million award from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. The agency will receive $350,000 in annual funding for five years.
The facility at 135 Grand Street is a community-based, non-clinical resource
for individuals in recovery, their families and friends, and for those
who are seeking recovery services for a family member or friend.
The Onward Recovery Community and Outreach Center will offer peer support,
skill building, recreation, wellness education, employment readiness,
and social activities in a safe, welcoming, and substance-free environment.
The center will also provide information on how to access addiction treatment, while also helping people navigate insurance and treatment issues. The center also offers peer-led addiction and recovery support groups; family supports and resources; recovery enhancement skills training; access to community resources; health and wellness activities; community service opportunities; and education and vocational services.
