KINGSTON – An off-duty, suspended Ulster County corrections officer was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, for a second time, on a DWI charge.
Eric Decker, 37, of Kerhonkson, was also charged with driving with a
blood alcohol content of over .18 percent (more than twice the legal limit),
reckless endangerment, having an open container of alcoholic beverage
in a motor vehicle and failing to maintain lanes.
Decker was previously arrested by deputies on August 11 for DWI and was on suspension from his correction officer job for that arrest when he was arrested for this offense.
At 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies responded to a 911 call for an erratic vehicle stopped in the Town of Rochester. Deputies observed the vehicle fail to maintain lane and pull into the Rondout Middle School parking lot. Investigation revealed he placed a student who was walking in the parking lot at risk while he was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition.
Decker was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
