ALBANY – Unemployment rates in Mid-Hudson counties in August inched up when compared to August 2016.
The August unemployment rate was 4.5 percent, unchanged from July and up from 4.3 percent in August 2016.   Year-over-year in August, the labor force increased by 14,900, or 1.3 percent, to 1,150,500.
Columbia County, with a 3.6 rate, had the lowest percentage of jobless in the state.
Dutchess County, at 4.2 percent, was ranked ninth in the state.
Putnam and Sullivan counties, each with 4.3 percent joblessness, were ranked 12th.
Rockland and Ulster counties, each with 4.5 percent rates of unemployment, were each ranked 20th in the state.
Orange and Westchester counties, each with 4.6 percent unemployment, were each ranked 24th in the state.
Greene County, with 4.9 percent joblessness, was ranked 37th in the state.
Municipal unemployment in the region was highest in the City of Mount Vernon a 6.3 percent. The City of Newburgh trailed at 6.2 percent. Unemployment in the City of Yonkers was 5.7 percent. The City of Poughkeepsie was at 5.4 percent; the Town of Haverstraw was at 5.3 percent; and the City of Middletown had a 5.0 percent rate of joblessness.
