PATTERSON – It took five doses of Narcan, four nasal sprays and one intravenous, to revive a man, who was found unresponsive in the garage of a residence on Concord Road in Patterson.
Putnam county Sheriff’s deputies were called to the home at about 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5. Deputies, who said the man exhibited signs of an opioid overdose, administered four nasal spray doses and when EMS personnel arrived, they administered more to the man intravenously. That brought him around and he was transported to Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel for treatment.
Sheriff Donald Smith noted the state health department has made Narcan available to the public at pharmacies without a prescription, but he said while it can save lives from overdoses and give a person a second chance, it is not a cure for opioid addiction. “It is up to the person who gets the second chance to use the opportunities to seek professional treatment of his or her addiction,” Smith said.
