WHITE PLAINS – A Campbell Hall man was sentenced in White Plains federal court to 14½ years in federal prison on his guilty plea to sexual exploitation of a minor related to child pornography offenses, and attempts to hinder the federal investigation of his criminal conduct.
Edward Diaz, 60, used his personal email account to send himself an email attaching three images of child pornography. His internet service provider flagged the email as potentially containing child pornography and provided it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A representative of that agency reviewed the email and at least one of the attachments, indicating the presence of child pornography, and notified the US Postal Inspection Service.
During an interview with Diaz in his home back on June 13, 2016, postal service agents saw a laptop in his bedroom, which he denied using to view child pornography. Agents returned with a search warrant but learned Diaz had left the residents and taken the laptop with him. He was convinced to return, told authorities he did not own a laptop, but later said he took it to a repair shop, which he refused to identify. The computer has not been recovered.
Authorities analyzed an SD card in his home, which revealed the existence of five previously deleted imagines of a pre-pubescent girl engaged in a sex act with Diaz.
In addition to his prison term, Diaz was sentenced to supervised release for life.
