NEWBURGH – Officials from support service agencies and Orange County gathered in Newburgh on Thursday to recognize September as Recovery Month and agree that benefits of recovery from mental and substance use disorders must be addressed now.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus said Recovery Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness of “this difficult human challenge” that affects all walks of life.
“There are a lot of Americans who are suffering from either addictions or mental illness and it is okay to get treatment,” Neuhaus said, nothing there are many success stories. “By highlighting Recovery Month, we are letting people know that if they have a loved one who needs help, contact us.”
Persons seeking help can contact any of several local agencies – Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan, Cornerstone Family Healthcare, HONOR or RECAP.
Catholic Charities’ Executive Director Dr. Dean Scher said working together, “we are stronger and more effective in promoting prevention, encouraging treatment, and helping people recover.”
