WHITE PLAINS – A New York City man was sentenced to 19 years in state prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty in March to murder.
Bobby Jackson, 36, admitted that on April 17, 2016 he chased the victim, Charles Smith, down a Mount Vernon street as the victim was riding his bicycle. As Jackson jogged after Smith, he began shooting at him, hitting him once in the back. Smith fell off his bike and smashed his head on the concrete pavement. He was dead within minutes.
At the same time as Jackson was shooting, there were several pedestrians on the street, including a woman pushing a baby stroller, who were in the line or fire.
Jackson pled guilty to second degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
