HOUSTON – Matthew Gross is a native of Orange County, having moved to Houston some seven years ago. His area of the city was not as hard hit as other parts of the expansive metropolis, but he said it is nevertheless traumatizing for his family.
“This is the worst flooding I have ever seen in my life and especially since I have been residing in Houston for the last seven years. It is definitely an emergency situation; it is definitely scary,” Gross said.
While Gross’ house was saved from flooding beyond a foot or so in his garage, his in-laws suffered a worse fate.

“The Army Corps of Engineers had to relieve some pressure off of a reservoir to avoid further damages. In doing so, they dumped hundreds of thousands of gallons of water, which destroyed their house. So, the in-laws have nowhere to live. Five feet of water came in and made their house uninhabitable,” he said.
The in-laws had to be removed by boat.
Gross, 39, grew up the Town of Wallkill.
