Middletown Police Department announces promotions

MIDDLETOWN – Following the recent retirements of Middletown Police Chief Ramon Bethencourt and Bureau Commander of Services Lt. Gregory Metakes, new promotions have been announced.
Promoted to the position of Patrol Lieutenant were Detective Sergeant Mark Doty and JAB/CPU Sergeant Essam Khalil. Promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant were Detective Evan Colon and Detective Jacqueline Welch. Sergeant Welch becomes the first female police officer promoted to a supervisory rank within the City of Middletown Police Department’s 129-year history. She will go on to serve as head of the Department’s Juvenile Aid Bureau and Crime Prevention Unit, pulling from her experience as a Detective and D.A.R.E Officer.
Police Officer Nathanael DeYoung was promoted to the rank of Detective by Chief of Police, John Ewanciw. Chief Ewanciw also previously appointed two new Bureau Commanders to handle the administration of police department operations and services. Patrol Lieutenant Jeffry Thoelen was appointed as the Bureau Commander of Operations on August 7, 2017, and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Patrol Division. Patrol Lieutenant Francis Graziano was appointed as the Bureau Commander of Services on August 14, 2017, and provides management of the Detective Division, Narcotics Unit, and the Juvenile Aid Bureau.

men and woman put into place during these recent promotions will undoubtedly
continue this tradition, ensuring that the Middletown community continues
to receive the highest level of service.”
The Middletown Common Council will recognize the recent promotions in a pinning ceremony that will be held on Tuesday, September 5 at 8 p.m. in the Common Council Chambers on the Second Floor of City Hall, located at 16 James Street, in Middletown.
