PORT JERVIS – O&R is scheduled to begin a new natural gas main replacement project in the Third Ward in Port Jervis on Aug. 29.
The project, which will cost approximately $2.9 million, is part of a large-scale investment in Port Jervis by O&R to eliminate all low-pressure gas mains in the city.
The Third Ward project is designed to help improve service in the neighborhood by replacing 12,460 feet of cast-iron main in O&R’s low-pressure natural gas distribution system. Those mains, and about 190 gas services to buildings, will be removed and a new high-pressure system, which utilizes modern high-density, plastic mains, will be installed.
O&R’s contractor, Titanic, will be replacing the low-pressure gas main on Orange St., Maiden Lane, Reservoir Ave., Hudson St., Cross St. Warren Place, Hornbeck Ave., Rumsey St. and Richard St.
The crews will be performing the work between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for approximately five months. The duration of the project will be adjusted subject to weather conditions, if necessary.
The affected customers are being notified of the project by letter from O&R. Traffic control flaggers, cones and signs will be fully deployed for workplace safety.
