TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – The Putnam County Sheriff office identified the bicyclist who was struck by a car and killed on Route 6 in Southeast on Friday, August 25th.
David Wellin, 68, who lived in Danbury, Connecticut, was bicycling west along Route 6, just east of Starr Ridge Road, at about 9:05 Friday morning.  He was reportedly travelling along the right-hand shoulder of the road and tried making a left turn across the roadway, when he crossed into the path of a car that was overtaking him from behind in the westbound lane.  The car struck the bicycle broadside. Wellin was pronounced dead at Danbury Hospital.
The driver of the car was an 18-year-old Mahopac resident who was alone in his car.  He was not injured.
No charges have been filed but investigation is continuing.
