Street to be dedicated for former congressman

MIDDLETOWN – Orchard Street, the street that once held former Congressman
Benjamin Gilman’s campaign headquarters, will be dedicated in his
memory during a ceremony at the corner of Orchard and North streets in
Middletown.
Gilman died on December 17, 2016 at age 94.
The former statesman was born in Poughkeepsie, but grew up in Middletown.
He was considered a major player in world affairs, chairing the House Foreign Affairs Committee for several years and serving one year as a congressional delegate to the United Nations.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
