Police sketch of possible suspect

POUGHKEEPSIE – Who killed Leonard Monette, 54, of Wingdale 45 years ago remains a mystery and State Police continue to investigate this cold case murder.
Monette of Wingdale was found dead just before midnight on November 17, 1971, in a dark storeroom at the rear of Eddie’s Service Station at the intersection of routes 9 and 28 in the Town of Wappinger.
The night clerk at the gas station, Monette suffered from head injuries and had been stabbed in the back. It is believed he was killed following a robbery at the station.
