KINGSTON – Arts Mid-Hudson
and the Kingston Arts Commission are going to develop a multi-focal survey
to determine demographic and qualitative information about the City of
Kingston’s Latino population.
The $4,150 grant from the New York State Council on the Arts will allow for the hiring of an individual to draft the survey instrument.
The Arts Mid-Hudson’s Elinor Levy said the survey will seek to learn where the Latino residents come from, what their educational levels are and their occupations, as well as the artist community.
“We are looking to see who is practicing what form of art, whether it is what we call traditional art such as art, dance, music, or more contemporary art, painting, sculpture and contemporary music,” Levy said.
Once the survey has been formulated and implemented, Levy said it could
be applied to Latino communities in Poughkeepsie, Newburgh,Middletown,
Ellenville and other areas in the region.
