Middletown street to be dedicated to the late
statesman, Benjamin Gilman
MIDDLETOWN – Orchard Street, the street that once held former Congressman
Benjamin Gilman’s campaign headquarters, will be dedicated in his
memory during a ceremony at the corner of Orchard and North streets.
Gilman died on December 17, 2016 at age 94.
The former statesman was born in Poughkeepsie, but grew up in Middletown.
He was considered a major player in world affairs as he chaired the House
Foreign Affairs Committee for a number of years.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
