Rosendale woman charged with stealing idling vehicle, crashing

ROSENDALE – Ulster County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Rosendale woman on charges of driving while ability impaired by drugs, traffic infractions and reusing to submit to a breath screening test.
Police said Herma Allen, 53, drove her vehicle to a liquor store in the Bridge Plaza at around 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8. She made a purchase and got into another vehicle that was idling unoccupied in front of the store.  She drove off and about 20 minutes later returned to the area driving on Route 32 north where she struck a car, causing an additional crash with a pickup truck.  The driver of the struck car was transported a hospital for treatment of neck injuries.
Allen was arrested at the scene and determined to be driving while impaired by drugs. She is in the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
Sheriff’s personnel were assisted by Town of Rosendale and State Police, the Rosendale Fire Department and Mobile Life.
