Man sentenced in shotgun attack

WHITE PLAINS – A Tuckahoe man was sentenced on Wednesday to 28 years in state prison after being found guilty by a Westchester County Court jury on attempted murder charges.
Hengjun Chao, 50, was also convicted of criminal use of a firearm and assault in connection with the shooting of Dr. Dennis Charney.  Chao had stalked Charney for days before he shot him as he came out of a store on Chappaqua around 8 a.m. on August 29, 2016.
Chao was a research assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He was fired in May 2009 by a committee that included Dr. Charney. The victim is the dean of the medical school.
