MONTICELLO – Sullivan County has not had a commissioner of public safety since Richard Martinkovic retired at the end of last year.
The county advertised months ago with no success and last week, officials posted a new announcement for the $80,000-a-year job.
The deadline to apply is this Friday at 5 p.m.
County Manager Joshua Potosek would like to hire a candidate quickly.
“Getting through the summer and what is going on we realized we need it as soon as possible so it was more of a function of how quick we need someone in versus some other reason,” Potosek said. “We need to get someone onboard quick to help with those day to day functions.”
The commissioner serves as a liaison between public safety, public works, community organizations, agencies and the county government to train, collaborate, prepare and respond to emergencies of all types and exercises administrative oversight over the emergency control center, disaster response for the county airport, county 911, county fire training center, Office of Emergency Management and other services assigned to the division.
