WHITE PLAINS – A federal grant of just under $2.3 million will provide financial and academic support to underserved students majoring in biology at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry.
The five-year grant, from the National Science Foundation, will be used by the college to provide scholarship and academic support, including advising, mentoring, and career preparation, to low-income and underserved students.
Mercy will also examine the impact of those academic support activities on enrollment, retention, graduation, and postgraduate placement rates, in collaboration with other academic institutions. Mercy is one of six colleges across the country to receive the funding.
The grant was announced by Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D, NY-17), who said the funds will “empower and improve outcomes for underserved students (who) will gain the skills critical to achieving academic success and to obtaining the jobs of today and tomorrow.”
