MID-HUDSON – The instances of illegal dumping of C & D materials in the Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island are on the upswing and the state Department of Environmental Conservation is investigating.
In the Mid-Hudson alone, truck loads have been dumped on private property in Ulster County and at least one instance also occurred in Sullivan County.
Regional DEC Director Kelly Turturro said it does appear that more illegal dumping is going on.
“We are seeing construction and demolition debris that is being improperly disposed of both in Long Island and the Hudson Valley over the recent past,” Turturro said.
DEC Police have formed a task force of sorts to go after these midnight dumpers.
“Our agency has come together and has begun an investigation of this illegal disposal of this construction and demolition debris in the Hudson Valley and Long Island,” Turturro said. She said it would be premature to say if the same people are dumping in all three regions. That may be determined when the investigation has been completed, she said.
Some tickets have been issued for the dumping of the materials.
