Corley
GOSHEN – A Newburgh man pleaded guilty in Orange County Court to manslaughter in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, in the shooting death of a man on March 7, 2017, on Hasbrouck Street, in the City Newburgh.
Fabian Corley, 25, admitted that he killed the man with an illegally possessed hand gun. The shooting took place outside of Corley’s residence.
Corley had also been charged with possessing cocaine with the intent to sell it, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
At the time of the plea prosecutors said they would be recommending that Corley be sentenced to sixteen years in state prison and five years post-release supervision on the manslaughter charge. Prosecutors also will recommend that Corley be sentenced concurrently to fifteen years in state prison and five years post-release supervision for the weapon possession charge.
Corley is scheduled to be sentenced on November 2.
“Narcotics trafficking invariably leads to violence,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “My office will continue to make the prosecution of violent crimes, particularly violent crimes connected to the narcotics trade a high priority. Too many young people have lost their lives due to narcotics, as well as to the violence associated with narcotics. No family should have to grieve for the loss of a loved one killed due to gun violence.”
