CARMEL – Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith has been admitted to
the cardiac ICU at Yale-New Haven Hospital following an episode he experienced
last weekend.

Capt. William McNamara said Smith attended a fundraiser in Patterson on
Saturday for a recently deceased officer and another who is suffering
from cancer. After making remarks to attendees, Smith did not feel well
and went to the emergency room at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel where
he was admitted overnight.

On Sunday, he was transported by ambulance to Yale-New Haven where he
remains at this time.
Smith has conferred with his staff while in the hospital where his spirits
are high, said McNamara.

The sheriff said he and his doctors expect him to make a full recovery
and that he is looking forward to being back to work in the “very
near future.”
