KINGSTON – The City of
Kingston Fire Department has locked down a more than $690,000 federal
SAFER grant to pay for four additional firefighters for three years.

That will bring the compliment of professional firefighters to 53. The
city also has one volunteer fire company.

Kingston’s paid firefighters are also certified EMT’s.

“This will make our city safer and even more responsive when our
men and women are called to duty,” said Mayor Steven Noble.

Fire Chief Mark Brown said the city “values the safety of its residents
and our number one priority, and with more resources, we will be able
to ensure that this safety isn’t jeopardized.”

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the grants.
