NEW CITY – Former Rockland County sheriff James Kralik died Monday. He was 74.
Kralik retired in 2011 after working with the sheriff’s office for nearly 50 years. He served as sheriff for 20 years.
“There are some people who leave a lasting mark on Rockland. Former Sheriff Jim Kralik was one of them,” County Executive Edwin Day said Tuesday.
Day said Kralik “worked tirelessly to make sure that law enforcement in this county is prepared for all the challenges of the 21st century.”
The county executive said Kralik “clearly saw the need to develop coordinated anti-terrorism efforts that effectively used the resources of many different law enforcement agencies.”
“We had much in common,” said Day, a retired police officer.  “His legacy will live on.”
