MIDDLETOWN – The former Woolworth building on North Street in Middletown is beginning its transformation into the centerpiece of the city’s downtown area.
Before exterior work begins, interior remediation has started, said Mayor
Joseph DeStefano.
“I think the asbestos abatement has begun and so has the mold abatement and the contractor is mobilizing to begin hopefully in early August for the main part of the project to begin,” the mayor said.
Funded through the city’s $10 million grant from the state, the long-vacant building will be transformed into a boutique shopping mall with other amenities.
