HILLCREST – Ramapo Town Police have arrested a Spring Valley man
on a charge of attempted murder in connection with a shooting Monday afternoon.

Cabbie Rem Louis, 23, of Spring Valley was shot on West Eckerson Road
in Hillcrest shortly after 3 p.m. while driving. He was transported to
Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla where he remains.
The investigation determined this was not a random shooting. It is believed
that one or both of the passengers in the taxi were the intended targets.

Following investigation, town police arrested Hakeem Gentles, 22, who
was charged with assault in addition to attempted murder. He was arraigned
and remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.

Police announced late Thursday afternoon that the car used in connection
with the shooting, a 2004 Toyota Camry, four-door, with New York license
plates AYA-7260, had been located.
