Speedboat occupants flee after late-night crash into pontoon boat

The speedboat was recovered Monday from 50 feet of water

MONGAUP VALLEY – A late-night on-water mishap took a strange twist when the two people, on one of the boats fled after being brought to shore by the other boat.  The incident happened about 10:00 Sunday night, on Swinging Bridge Reservoir.
Witnesses told sheriff deputies a speedboat, apparently operating without lights, collided with a pontoon boat mid-channel. The speedboat quickly sunk. The two occupants were rescued by the pontoon boat. 
When the pontoon boat brought the speedboat occupants to shore, they suddenly jumped off and fled into the woods.
Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies are still looking for them. 
The speedboat was recovered from about 50 feet of water on Monday.  Nothing unusual found on the boat. 
The two occupants of the pontoon boat were taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center. One was treated for a fractured shoulder and the other for a leg injury.
