HILLBURN – Rockland County will hire a consultant to conduct a watershed assessment and management plan.
County Executive Edwin Day made the announcement in Hillburn on Tuesday, noting the $350,000 in funding for the work is coming from grants provided by State Senator David Carlucci and Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee.
“All the water we get comes from the sky,” Day said. “There is no other water that comes in from anywhere else, so conservation is really key. We have seen this before when he had our droughts and what this will allow us to do is have a professional plan put together to truly identify in a business-like manner strategies, how to implement them, what can be done legitimately to ensure we are getting the most about our water buck.”
At the same time, Day said the county’s water supply company, Suez, is offering discounts for water conservation methods.
