TOWN OF ULSTER – Ulster Town Supervisor James Quigley received the Republican Party nomination to seek another term in office. He is expected to seek the Conservative and Independence Party nominations as well and it appears he will have no opponent in the November election.
Quigley said in his eight years as supervisor, he has had to face the same issues as all local public officials.
“We face a challenging time imposed upon us by the tax cap legislation from the state,” he said. “We face a tough time from the fact that we have decreasing assessment bases in many of the communities because the businesses and the properties that built up over the last 25 and 30 years are now facing severe economic challenges and their values are going down.”
Quigley said he has kept the town on financial track through belt tightening and fiscal conservatism.
Quigley would like to double the length of the town supervisor’s term from two to four years. He hopes to have a referendum on the November ballot.
