PORT JERVIS – City officials in Port Jervis are ready to take the next steps on creating a whitewater rafting park in the Delaware River.
Community Development Director Valerie Maginsky told the Common Council Monday night that they are ready to close out a matching $49,500 grant and move on with the formal planning.
Maginsky said all parties are mostly onboard.
“The agencies got together and said we support the project as it stands. We are interested in hearing what you have to say.  Give us what we are asking for as far as the permitting information is concerned and we will move forward.”
Maginsky noted the Fish and Wildlife Commission is still looking at possible sediment issues and how that might impact aquatic life, including mussels.
Mayor Kelly Decker said the city is collecting bottles and cans as part of the effort to raise money for project.  Anyone wishing to donate empty containers to the city can contact his office.
