MIDDLETOWN – Mayor Joseph DeStefano of Middletown is possibly the longest serving mayor in the city’s history. The Democratic official is seeking re-election in November without any opposition.
In fact, many Orange County Republicans attended his fundraiser on Monday. District Attorney David Hoovler, Sheriff Carl DuBois and former county GOP Chairman and county court judge candidate William DeProspo attended.
DeStefano said they all work together for the good of the county and its residents.
“I think that it is important that we respect each other’s bigger political views, which are national and statewide political views, but on the local level, I think we are all trying to do what is best for Orange County and the City of Middletown in my case,” he said.
DeStefano lists among his achievements bringing Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Fei Tian College of Fine Arts to the former Middletown Psychiatric Center property, and most recently securing $10 million in a regional state grant for downtown revitalization.
The mayor also announced his continued alliance with Alderman-at-Large Miguel Rodrigues, who is also seeking re-election.
