GOSHEN – A Warwick man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Monday to eight years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision for the knifepoint robbery of a taxi driver on November 22, 2016.
On March 31 of this year, Thomas Leon, 29, pled guilty to armed robbery
before Judge Robert Freehill. He admitted that on that date at about 3:50
a.m. he was the sole passenger in the cab driven in the area of Fanchar
Road in the Town of Warwick when he put a knife to the driver’s
neck and demanded money. Leon was given $200.
After an investigation by Warwick Town Police, Leon was arrested.
“Any defendant who threatens the use of any type of weapon to commit a robbery deserved a severe sentence,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “Taxi drivers are particularly vulnerable to this type of crime and should not have to worry about being subjected to physical violence as they try to support themselves and their families.”
