WEST NYACK – The Clarkstown Police Department, Tuesday, unveiled
its newest law enforcement tool – a drone unit.

The program, which has been in the formative stage for about year, is
ready to launch with 12 officers being trained as pilots next week under
the direction of the program supervisor, Sgt. Kevin Quinn.

The unmanned aerial vehicle program was unveiled in a parking lot at the
Palisades Center mall in West Nyack because police department Administrative
Captain Anthony Ovchinnikoff they wanted to be totally transparent with
the public.

“We realize the public has privacy concerns that we are going to
be invading privacy. That is the furthest from the truth. That is why
we want everyone to see what the program is,” he explained.
The drones will be used in Haz-mat situations, perpetrator searches and
missing person searches, among other functions.
