NEWBURGH – By early fall, the Newburgh Police Department’s street camera compliment should be sufficient to cover all of the city’s crime hot-spots.
The city will spend $193,000 to purchase and install over a dozen new cameras to add to those already in service, said police department officer-in-charge Lt. Joseph Cortez.
“What we are looking at is early September as the latest date the project will be completed,” Cortez said. “We will now have 18 existing street cameras plus the additional 13 street cameras that will be up as well as a few additional cameras that will be placed on outside of municipal buildings.”.
That will include a security camera outside City Hall.
Funding for the new cameras is coming from several sources.
