New City man arrested in four robbery cases

NEW CITY – Clarkstown Police have arrested a New City man, who
they say was involved in four separate robbery cases in the New City area.

Luis Baez, 33, was arrested on Thursday, June 8 and charged with armed
robbery, robbery, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property,
criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon.

He was remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Baez allegedly committed two armed robberies and an attempted robbery
at the same gas station, the Sunoco at 128 North Main Street in New City,
on March 20, 28 and April 10. In the first two robberies, he allegedly
entered the store brandishing a knife and demanded money. He made off
with $3,000 the first time and $850 the second time. In his third attempt,
the employee was able to lock the front door before he could come in.

In a fourth incident, on April 13, Baez allegedly entered the Shell Mart
at 320 South Little Tor Road in New City, brandishing a firearm and demanding
money. He made off with over $500 in cash.

The detective bureau of Clarkstown Police also identified him as the suspect
in another case that occurred on November 28, 2016 at 9 a.m. at the Palisades
Center Mall. Baez is alleged to have broken into a delivery van there
and stole a gym bag with over $9,000 in cash.
