WASHINGTON – The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded just under $3.2 million for Hudson Valley airport infrastructure projects.
A total of $2.67 million goes to Westchester County for five individual airport projects.
Orange County received $360,000 to purchase a large snowplow, “When we have pretty heavy storms, our obligation is to have the main runway cleared within an hour or two of the final snowfall to provide an emergency landing spot for other aircraft, if there was an emergency at Stewart or another airfield, we would be potentially an emergency landing spot,” said County Airport Manager Edward Magryta.  The plow will cost $400,000 with the remaining 10 percent coming from local funding.
Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the grant funding through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, which is funded with passenger facilities charges that are tacked onto airline passenger tickets.
