Middletown’s “Safe Summer Initiative” launches next month

MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown will start its “Safe Summer Initiative” again this year beginning in June.
The two-part program is intended to gather information from the community about quality of life issues and then direct law enforcement resources to target offenses.
Part one will introduce elected officials and department heads into each
of the four wards. Mayor Joseph DeStefano, Police Chief Raymon Bethencourt,
common council members and department heads will be on hand between 5
p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning on June 21.
Part two is providing more police presence throughout the city. Middletown police officers will team up with personnel from other law enforcement agencies, including the State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Probation, State Parole and others.
The schedule for meeting with city officials is:

June 21 – 1st Ward – Sproat Street Park
June 28 – 2nd Ward – Middletown YMCA
July 5 – 3rd Ward – Maple Hill Park
July 12 – 4th Ward – Orange County Community College
