Hoovler hands out pizza to DARE grads

VILLAGE OF MONTGOMERY – Fifth grade students at Montgomery Elementary School were treated to a pizza party on Friday and had a kickball match against a team headed by Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.
The occasion was the DARE program’s graduation.
Hoovler asked the kids to write get-well cards to Montgomery and Maybrook Police Chief Arnold “Butch” Amthor, who was shot and wounded by a man who later took his own life.  The DA plans to hand deliver the students’ best wishes to the chief.
“I know these kids here having gone through, under Officer Jack Smith, the DARE program. They are respectful to police, they like police, and I know they are writing some very thoughtful cards to Chief Amthor to get well,” he said.
Hoovler’s team included assistant DA’s from his office as well as personnel from the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County.
