NEW WINDSOR – Lucy Mercado’s New Windsor-based Support Our
Heroes Foundation is once again issuing the call for community support
and donations for America’s troops. Memorial Day is a special time
to remember America’s heroes, and she said that makes donations
that much more significant.
In its 13th year, Mercado is continuing her year-round effort that she began in 2004 when her son was serving in Iraq.
Now, Luis Mercado, who spent 12 years in the Marine Corps and served three tours of duty in Iraq, would like community support for his mother’s effort.
“We try to support as many troops and families,” Luis said. “My mom’s non-profit organization, Support Our Heroes, does a phenomenal job collecting the goods for the troops on the front lines and the workforce.”
Mercado recently attended the funeral of a personal friend who was killed in action in the Middle East. He wants to give back to the families of those lost while serving, as well as all who are in the military.
