ARLINGTON – The Planet Wings shop at 661 Dutchess Turnpike in the Town of Poughkeepsie caught fire at around 11:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Arlington firefighters forced their way into the building and encountered heavy smoke inside with an active fire on the roof. The flames were extinguished and declared under control about a half hour from the time of dispatch.
The building sustained smoke, fire and water damage and firefighters were able to contain the flames to the roof area.  The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical and involved an exterior neon sign, said Arlington Fire Chief Toy Gallante.
The business was closed and unoccupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.  The business will remain closed for an undetermined period of time.
Assisting at the two-alarm fire were the LaGrange Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services, Dutchess County Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Police and Building Department, and Central Hudson.
