Farrell, accompanied by his wife, said he can “sleep well” at night, knowing
he has done his job
MONTICELLO – Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell made it official on Tuesday; he is running for a third four-year term, saying he wants to continue a mission.
Introducing Farrell was his predecessor, former DA Stephen Lungen, who said he knew then that Farrell had the credentials.
“It requires that the individual prosecute the hard cases, not just the easy winners, “Lungen said. “Ensure that crime victims are treated properly. Ensure that defendants are treated fairly. Don’t do things for publicity or for politics.”
Farrell made it clear; he is running on a record that includes no tolerance for violent crime.
“I said I would have no quarter for those who commit or engage in violent acts in the community and we have made that a priority of the office over the last seven years,” Farrell told about 150 supporters. “Making sure that those who commit violent crimes are held responsible, and my office, with law enforcement support, have removed these criminals from the community, making our community safer.”
The county’s top law enforcement officer, Sheriff Michael Schiff said that’s a mission fulfilled.
“We’re lucky in Sullivan County to have someone of this caliber, a prosecutor who isn’t afraid to be hard on crime and compassionate on victims,” Schiff said.
One of the victims, who spoke on Tuesday, was Jeanette Williams whose son was murdered eight years ago. She said she received nothing but dedication and compassion from the new district attorney at the time.
