WASHINGTON – Regulations
pertaining to what kind of emergency medical supplies must be carried
on airplanes has not been updated since 2001, 16 years ago.

Two area congressmen want to change that. Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18)
and John Faso (R, NY-19) are co-sponsors of legislation that would require
child-sized medicine doses and appliances, including breathing masks.

During a telephone news conference on Wednesday, the reps enlisted the
help of Dr. Brian Moore, of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

“In emergency situation when every second counts, these drugs and
devices can save lives and protect against serious health consequences,”
Moore said.
Faso called the proposed legislation, which would become mandatory for
airlines a year after enactment, “common sense.”
The bipartisan measure is pending in the House and Senate.
