Amthor expected to
fully recover
MAYBROOK – Village of Maybrook and Montgomery Town Police Chief
Arnold “Butch” Amthor was shot in the shoulder Tuesday morning
as he and other officers responded to a reported domestic dispute at a
residence on Abbey Lane in the village.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said as the officers talked to Anthony Bostick, 28, he opened fire, shooting Amthor in the shoulder. He was transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening wound.

Officers fired back and a standoff ensured until around 3 p.m. when police found Bostick dead inside. Bostick had a previous conviction and served five years in prison on an attempted burglary charge.
Hoovler said while an officer fired back at Bostick, he could not comment how Bostick died.
“Based on the information that we know at this point in time, based on witness accounts, it appears preliminarily that the officers acted reasonably and were justified in returning fire,” the DA said.

Amthor doubles as Maybrook Village and Montgomery Town police chief.
Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus visited the chief at the hospital; they have been close friends for over 20 years since they worked together in the City of Newburgh. The county executive asked that the public keep Amthor in their prayers. He expects to make a full recovery.
Montgomery Town Supervisor Michael Hayes also visited the chief in the hospital and said his spirits were good. He expected to be in the hospital for a couple of days.
Bostick had an open case in the Village of Goshen. He was charged with carrying a telescopic baton. As a convicted felon, it was illegal for him to possess any weapon.
