PEEKSKILL – A resident of the Hillcrest Condominiums has been credited
with alerting the police of a suspicious person lurking around their vehicle.

As a result Peekskill City Police arrested Shane Oglesby, 20, of Ardsley
and charged him with criminal mischief early Monday. A second man was
not located and police continue their investigation.
When officers arrived on the scene around 2 a.m., they spotted Oglesby
trying to conceal himself inside a parked vehicle. He had broken the glove
box with the contents on the floor.

Oglesby was taken into custody and charged with several counts of criminal
mischief after police determined he had committed similar damage to at
least four other vehicles with intent to steal valuables.

Chief Eric Johansen said people should lock their car doors and remove
any valuables from plain sight to avoid being a crime victim.

He praised the resident who contacted the department and encouraged others
do to the same when they see suspicious activity.

“These crimes are an incredible nuisance in our community and it
is very gratifying for our officers to be able to locate one of the people
responsible thanks in large part to the actions of one of our citizens,”
the chief said.
