KINGSTON – A Kingston man was arrested on several drug charges.  Prince Ellis, 51, was picked up on a warrant after being indicted for those crimes.
The Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team began an investigation into drug sales in mid-April and executed a search warrant at Ellis’ residence, revealing a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, over 200 decks of heroin and $4,000 in cash.
He was charged with felonies of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm based on evidence recovered.
Ellis was sent to the Ulster County Jail without bail, but later released in Kingston City Court.
On May 12, he was arrested on a new warrant on charges of sales and possession of drugs. While he was being committed, authorities found additional heroin and as a result charged him with promoting prison contraband.
Ellis has been charged with a total of seven counts of felony drug possession, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon, and promoting prison contraband. He was again sent to jail without bail.
Police agencies assisting in the investigation included Woodstock, Lloyd, Shandaken, Plattekill, Marlborough, New Paltz and Ellenville. Also involved in the investigation were the Ulster Sheriff’s Office, Ulster Probation and US Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
