WASHINGTON – The Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery
Central School District has received another $1 million in federal impact
aid to offset the loss of tax revenue from the US Military Academy at
West Point.
A total of 93 percent of the land in the school district is tax exempt and the federal impact aid is designed to assist this district as well as other similar school districts, over 1,300 nationwide.
A federal funding deal will now provide $1.3 billion for the program, a $23 million increase from last year.
The funding was announced by Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney.
HF-FM Superintendent Dr. Frank Sheboy said the district “relieves on impact act to fund its strong academic programs and the prospect of this being eliminated in the executive budget would have had disastrous impact on our ability to educate our children.”
