TOWN OF RAMAPO – A 10-year-old would up in Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern on Sunday evening after he at a sour gummy candy infused with medical cannabis. Ramapo Town Police said the boy ate at least one piece of candy containing 250 mg of THC, and possibly more. He was treated and later released.
The child’s father had permitted the boy to sit in the family’s car alone and the package of “candy” was in the vehicle. The boy saw candy and did what most children would have done, he ate some, police said. As a result, the child suffered the effects of the THC in his body.
The father, Ephraim Zagelbaum, 37, of Spring Valley, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.  He was released on his own recognizance.
The “candy” was held as evidence to be properly tested and weighed. Pending the results, police said additional charges may be pending.
Police note that marijuana comes in many forms and just as any other drug, prescription or not, there are precautions that must be taken to protect others, especially young children.
