Elderly Alzheimer’s patient found over 8 hours after being reported missing

HIGHLAND FALLS – An 85-year-old
woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease was reported missing Thursday
afternoon and through a joint effort of several area police agencies and
residents, she was found safe and sound 8 ½ hours later.

The woman was last seen at 3:30 p.m. on Ondaora Parkway in Highland Falls.
Police from Highland Falls, Town of Highland, State Park Police, Orange
County Sheriff’s Office and Westchester County K-9 units, State
Police Aviation, and the state Missing Persons Clearinghouse searched
unsuccessfully for the woman.

Just before midnight, resident John Kresback reported hearing a female
vice from next door. Police officers arrived and located the woman in
a wooded area between two buildings. She was transported by the Town of
Highlands Ambulance Corp to an area hospital for further evaluation.
