POUGHKEEPSIE – Several Democratic and Republican Dutchess County legislators have signed onto a letter urging the state to provide comprehensive healthcare coverage for persons with tick-borne diseases.
The drive came from Democrat lawmaker Joel Tyner, who has been pushing for full medical coverage.
“Back in 2009, Rhode Island and Connecticut were the only two states in the country that if you needed more than four weeks of antibiotics, your health insurance would cover it,” Tyner said. “Since then, Massachusetts has become the third state in the country. Dutchess County and New York State, we are the epicenter for the Lyme disease and tick-borne disease epidemic.”
Tyner is urging Dutchess County’s state representatives to support full healthcare coverage to address those diseases.
