NEW PALTZ – An 80-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly made a threatening comment involving a gun while on New Paltz school property.
Arnold Projansky, of Salt Lake City, Utah, was charged with the felony of making a terroristic threat.
New Paltz Police officers were called to New Paltz Middle School at about a 10:20 for a report of a suspicious man walking on school property. A teacher encountered the man and advised him he could not be on school property.  Projansky allegedly made the threatening comment involving a gun, causing the teacher to be concerned for student safety. As a result, the school was placed in lockdown.
Projansky was taken into custody and was found not to have any weapons.
“Through the investigation, there is not any reason to believe that there was any credibility to Mr. Projansky’s comments nor any concern to public safety,” Chief Joseph Snyder said.
Projansky was released to appear in town court at a later date.
